5 payer executives retiring in 2024

The CEOs of at least three payers plan to retire at the end of 2024. 

Here are five executive retirements Becker's has reported this year: 

  1. Centene president Ken Fasola plans to retire in July 2025. Mr. Fasola will end his duties as president by the end of 2024, and transition to a strategic advisor role for the first half of 2025. 

  2. John Baackes, CEO of L.A. Care, plans to step down from the helm of the Medicaid managed care plan at the end of the year. He has been CEO since 2015. The organization has not named his successor as of Nov. 18. 

  3. Diane Holder, president and CEO of UPMC Health Plan, will retire at the end of 2024. Mary Beth Jenkins, the health plan's COO, will be its next CEO. 

  4. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan CEO Daniel Loepp plans to retire at the end of 2024 after more than two decades with the company. Tricia Keith, executive vice president, COO and president of emerging markets at BCBS Michigan, will take over the CEO role in 2025.

  5. UnitedHealth Group president and COO Dirk McMahon retired April 1 after 20 years with the company. UnitedHealth Group named CFO John Rex as president of the company.
