Meet Centene's executive leadership team

Centene is adding a new member to its executive leadership team, with Susan Smith set to become COO Jan. 1. 

Here is a look at Centene's leadership team, according to its website

Sarah London, CEO. Ms. London was named CEO in March 2022. She joined Centene in 2020. Her previous roles in the company include vice chair and senior vice president of technology innovation and modernization. Ms. London was a partner at Optum Ventures before joining Centene.

Ken Fasola, president. Mr. Fasola joined Centene in January 2022 with the acquisition of Magellan Health, where he served as CEO since 2019. He was Centene's executive vice president of healthcare enterprises before being named president Dec. 14.

Susan Smith, COO. Ms. Smith will become COO in January after joining the company in June as senior vice president. She previously spent 19 years at Humana, most recently serving as senior vice president of clinical, quality and enterprise solutions president. 

Drew Asher, CFO. Mr. Asher has served as Centene's CFO since 2021. He joined the company in January 2020 after it acquired WellCare, where he served as an executive vice president. 

Alice Hm Chen, MD, chief health officer. Dr. Chen became the payer's chief health officer in January. She previously served as chief medical officer for Covered California, the state's health insurance marketplace.  

Jon Dinesman, executive vice president of external affairs. Mr. Dinesman joined Centene in 2008. He previously worked at UnitedHealth Group and as a senior policy adviser for the Arizona House of Representatives. 

Ashlee Knuckey, chief risk, ethics and compliance officer. Ms. Knuckey joined Centene in 2022. She was previously a partner at Locke Lord LLP, where she was co-chair of the health and managed care litigation practice group and a member of the board of directors. 

Chris Koster, secretary and general counsel. Mr. Koster joined Centene in 2017 and previously served as Missouri's attorney general. 

Brian LeClaire, CIO. Mr. LeClaire became Centene's CIO in December. Before joining the payer, Mr. LeClaire was the director of technology for private equity firm Arsenal Capital Partners' healthcare team. 

Erika McConduit, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer. Ms. McConduit leads DEI and community impact strategy for Centene. Prior to joining Centene, she was president and CEO of the Urban League of Louisiana. 

Tanya McNally, chief people officer. Ms. McNally joined Centene in 2020 following the company's acquisition of WellCare, where she served as vice president of human resources. 

Wade Rakes, chief growth officer. Mr. Rakes was named chief growth officer Oct. 24. He previously served as president and CEO of Peach State Health Plan, Centene's Georgia subsidiary. 

Shannon Susko, chief communications officer. Ms. Susko joined Centene as vice president and chief communications officer in May. She previously served as managing director and co-head of strategic situations and investor relations and head of healthcare at Edelman Smithfield, a part of the Edelman firm.
