9 payer M&A updates

From the Elevance-Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana deal put on hold again to Cigna reaching a deal to sell its Medicare business, here are nine payer mergers and acquisitions updates Becker's has reported since Jan. 29: 

1. Elevance Health closed the acquisition of infusion center and specialty pharmacy operator Paragon Healthcare.

2.  CareSource signed an intent to affiliate with Brookfield, Wis.-based Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative, one of the last surviving ACA co-op plans. 

3. Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health reached a deal to sell Health New England, its insurance subsidiary, to Point32Health.

4. CareOregon and SCAN Group called off a proposed merger between the two nonprofit insurers, after state regulators expressed concerns about the deal. 

5. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana has put plans to be acquired by Elevance Health on pause again after the proposed sale faced scrutiny from physicians and state officials. 

6. UnitedHealth Group completed the sale of its health insurance and hospital operations in Brazil.

7. Centene completed the sale of its U.K. companies. 

8. The Cigna Group reached a deal to sell its Medicare business to Health Care Service Corp. for $3.3 billion.

9. Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica is selling its insurance subsidiary, Paramount Health, to Medical Mutual of Ohio.
