Payers partnered with Google, Instacart and other tech companies in 2024.
Here are eight deals to note from this year:
- Molina Healthcare partnered with Instacart in Michigan to address food insecurity among expectant mothers. The partnership will provide 600 Molina members with Instacart+ memberships for 18 months and grocery stipends to improve healthy food access and reduce birth outcome disparities.
- Blue Shield of California partnered with Salesforce on a new platform solution that aims to make prior authorization simpler and faster.
- Elevance Health launched Mosaic Health, a primary care venture with private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Elevance Health executives expect the venture to bring in $4 billion annually.
- Humana will open primary clinics at 23 former Walmart health clinic sites. The insurer will lease the sites from Walmart.
- California’s ACA marketplace, Covered California, worked with Google to automate parts of the coverage enrollment process using artificial intelligence.
- Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield partnered with the University of Iowa on a risk management and insurance degree program.
- Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drug Co. inked a new partnership 9 with startup insurance provider Sidecar Health.
- Livonia Mich.-based Trinity Health and several Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans signed a new multi-year provider network contract that includes advanced collaboration on data connectivity and value-based reimbursement models through the Epic Payer Platform.
