8 payer partnerships in 2024 to know

Payers partnered with Google, Instacart and other tech companies in 2024. 

Here are eight deals to note from this year: 

  1. Molina Healthcare partnered with Instacart in Michigan to address food insecurity among expectant mothers. The partnership will provide 600 Molina members with Instacart+ memberships for 18 months and grocery stipends to improve healthy food access and reduce birth outcome disparities.

  2. Blue Shield of California partnered with Salesforce on a new platform solution that aims to make prior authorization simpler and faster. 

  3. Elevance Health launched Mosaic Health, a primary care venture with private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Elevance Health executives expect the venture to bring in $4 billion annually. 

  4. Humana will open primary clinics at 23 former Walmart health clinic sites. The insurer will lease the sites from Walmart. 

  5. California’s ACA marketplace, Covered California, worked with Google to automate parts of the coverage enrollment process using artificial intelligence.

  6. Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield partnered with the University of Iowa on a risk management and insurance degree program.

  7. Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drug Co. inked a new partnership 9 with startup insurance provider Sidecar Health.

  8. Livonia Mich.-based Trinity Health and several Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans signed a new multi-year provider network contract that includes advanced collaboration on data connectivity and value-based reimbursement models through the Epic Payer Platform.
