The insurer is distributing the money to Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas through three syndicated funds, according to a Sept. 9 announcement.
The funds will support affordable housing through low-income housing tax credits.
The move is part of the insurer’s Bold Goal initiative, which targets social determinants of health and health-related social needs.
“Housing insecurity can disproportionally affect Medicaid-eligible patients and lead to inadequate health outcomes,” said John Barger, Humana Medicaid president. “To achieve their best health, people need access to stable, safe and affordable places to live. Humana’s national housing strategy is one way we are helping our communities address their housing needs.”
