MaineHealth, Agilon Health partner to improve primary care for Medicare Advantage patients

Austin, Texas-based Agilon Health has begun implementing a long-term partnership with MaineHealth to improve primary care services.

Agilon assists providers with transitioning to value-based care models. The partnership will create a new primary care delivery model to improve care outcomes for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries across Portland-based MaineHealth, according to a March 11 press release.

''Through the partnership with agilon health, we will be accelerating the transition to a payment model defined by value and investing more deeply in our primary care delivery system," said Andy Mueller, MD, CEO of MaineHealth. ''The depth of patient need, especially among our growing senior population, necessitates us to think very differently about what the primary care delivery system in our community needs to look like today and in the future.''

MaineHealth is the largest integrated health system in northern New England, providing care to over 1 million people in Maine and New Hampshire.

The finalization of the agreement is expected in the second quarter of 2022.
