The states where most Medicare beneficiaries have Medicare Advantage plans

Twenty-six states now have more than half of their Medicare enrollees in Medicare Advantage plans, according to a March 5 report from Chartis, a healthcare advisory services firm. 

Nationwide, half of Medicare-eligible beneficiaries are now enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans. Here are the 26 states where Medicare Advantage market penetration exceeds 50%:

  • Michigan: 61%
  • Alabama: 59%
  • Minnesota: 59%
  • Rhode Island: 59%
  • Maine: 57%
  • Wisconsin: 57%
  • Connecticut: 56%
  • Florida: 56%
  • Louisiana: 55%
  • North Carolina: 55%
  • Ohio: 55%
  • Oregon: 55%
  • Georgia: 54%
  • Hawaii: 54%
  • Pennsylvania: 53%
  • Texas: 53%
  • Colorado: 52%
  • Kentucky: 52%
  • Missouri: 52%
  • Tennessee: 52%
  • Nevada: 51%
  • New York: 51%
  • Utah: 51%
  • West Virginia: 51%
  • Arizona: 50%
  • California: 50%
