Idaho passes Medicaid managed care, work requirements legislation

Idaho lawmakers have passed legislation aimed at transitioning the state’s Medicaid program to a managed care system while introducing work requirements for able-bodied adults and providing tax credits to help individuals purchase coverage on the state’s ACA exchange.

Under the bill, adults aged 19 to 64 who are able-bodied would need to work, volunteer, or participate in a work program for at least 20 hours per week to remain eligible for Medicaid benefits.

In addition to the work requirements, the bill tightens Medicaid eligibility rules, mandating that any state plan amendments or waivers that would expand coverage or increase costs to the state require legislative approval.

If signed into law, some provisions could take effect immediately, though the work requirements and other changes need federal approval.
