Washington state opened applications for its Medicaid-like health insurance program for undocumented adult immigrants on June 20.
Known as Apple Health Expansion, the program is open to all noncitizens ages 19 to 64 with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty rate. Coverage begins July 1 for primary, specialty, dental, behavioral, pharmacy, vision and transportation services.
Washington provides CHIP coverage to all income-eligible children, regardless of immigration status. It was also the first state to allow noncitizens to purchase coverage on the ACA marketplace.
