Walgreens will allow Medicare Advantage members to purchase products using supplemental benefits online.
According to a Feb. 27 news release from Walgreens, the pharmacy chain is the first community pharmacy to accept supplemental benefits online.
"Accepting Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online and on the Walgreens app improves shopping solutions for those who are homebound, have limited mobility or are simply short on time," Chief Customer Officer Tracey Brown said in the release.
Four in 5 MA plans offer beneficiaries over-the-counter benefits, according to a 2022 report from KFF. According to a survey from the Commonwealth Fund, 46% of MA beneficiaries reported using over-the-counter allowances from their plan in the past year, the highest percentage of any supplemental benefits.
