26 payers among nation's best large, midsize employers in 2024

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee was ranked 11th overall in Forbes' ranking of the 600 best large employers in America, and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield was ranked sixth among the best midsize employers.

Many of the industry's largest insurers made the list, which includes companies and institutions with 5,000 employees or more, in addition to several BCBS affiliates.

Payers also had a presence on Forbes' list of best midsized employers, which includes companies with 1,000 to 5,000 employees.

The rankings, published Feb. 13, are compiled from 170,000 employee surveys. Respondents were asked about working hours, salary, training and promotion opportunities, workload expectations, mental health benefits and management diversity. They were also asked if they would recommend their employer to others. Health systems that made the list are here.
