Former employees with the Cigna Group and its subsidiaries have taken to social media in October regarding layoffs they say are occurring across the company.
Becker's has not confirmed an exact number of employees who may have been affected or when layoffs would be effective, and Cigna did not respond to questions about a reduction in force or if additional layoffs are planned. In addition, Cigna has not filed WARN documents with state regulators this month. According to the company's website, it employs more than 74,000 people across the globe.
On LinkedIn in October, former employees with Cigna detailed a reduction in force they say took place across the company:
- A former operational risk senior adviser said she was leaving Cigna after an "enterprise reduction in force initiative."
- A former senior director of individual and family plans affordability said she "was impacted by a job elimination at Cigna Healthcare."
- The former head of integration solutions for U.S. medical technology wrote he was looking for a new position after more than 20 years with Cigna.
- A former mainframe technical services analyst at Express Scripts said he was laid off "due to a workforce reduction."
- A former analyst posted that he was laid off after three years with the company.
The cuts at Cigna come as other large healthcare companies with insurance units have laid off employees this year, including Elevance Health, CVS Health and UnitedHealth Group.
In the second quarter, Cigna reported $48.6 billion in total revenue and $1.5 billion in net income. As of June 30, the company had 19.5 million total medical members, up 10% year over year.
